On 10th December 2024, Sarvodaya Fusion and HSBC celebrated a significant milestone in advancing women’s empowerment and digital inclusion at HSBC’s head office. The event honored the inspiring women entrepreneurs who were part of the Women Empowerment and Digital Inclusion Programme, a collaboration aimed at breaking barriers and closing the gender gap in Sri Lanka’s SME sector.
The occasion was graced by Mr. Mark Surgenor, CEO of HSBC Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, President of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, and Prof. Rohan Samarajiva, Chairman of Sarvodaya Fusion. Together, they celebrated the incredible success of 20 visionary women entrepreneurs who were selected following the transformative Idea Hackathon held on 29th November 2024.
These 20 entrepreneurs, representing five provinces—Northern, Eastern, North Western, Western, and Southern—were awarded seed funding as part of their journey toward success. This initiative marks a significant step in empowering women across Sri Lanka, equipping them with the tools and support needed to thrive in the digital age.
Through this collaboration, Sarvodaya Fusion and HSBC are working tirelessly to create opportunities, close the gender gap, and foster resilience and innovation among women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka. The event was not just a celebration of achievement, but a reminder of the limitless potential of women in shaping the future of the SME sector.
