Project year:
2023
The *Women Empowerment and Digital Inclusion (WEDI)* project aims to empower women entrepreneurs across Sri Lanka through a series of impactful initiatives. Launched with a Training of Trainers (ToT) program in November 2023, the project trained 10 instructors to provide essential support. Following a successful recruitment campaign from December 2023 to February 2024, we exceeded our target by enrolling 193 women from five provinces. Beneficiary training sessions conducted from March to June 2024 focused on financial literacy, sustainable entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion. To enhance market access, we launched Sri Lanka's first digital platform for women entrepreneurs, WEDI, in August 2024, which has since registered 50 beneficiaries and published 74 products. Throughout August to November 2024, field visits assessed the progress of these entrepreneurs post-training. An Idea Hackathon scheduled for November 29 will allow selected beneficiaries to pitch their business ideas, with 20 receiving seed funding. Additionally, six beneficiaries will showcase their products at a Christmas stall in Havelock City Mall in December, further promoting their ventures. This project was dedicated to fostering the growth and success of women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka.
